Description
The Peanut Vendor or El manisero by Moises Simons (1889-1945) is a Cuban song based on a street-seller’s cry (Pregón) about selling peanuts. As well as being great fun to sing and play, the song cleverly combines several short melodies together, in a call-and-response structure typical of the Son cubano, using only two chords – G and D7.
- Ideal material for groups playing in multiple parts for the first time
- Parts are all around Grade 1-2 level, except the Descant 2 part which is easier (one octave range from low D to upper D)
- Lots of repetition; rhythms are easy to pick up by ear
- Treble 1 part also supplied in C fingerings
- Optional bass part, supplied in both bass and treble clef, and also reading in C
- Percussion instruments (such as wood block or güiro) may be added ad lib
